DIMH will incorporate both individual and group volunteers and will provide training to ensure a safe and professional work environment for everyone. We welcome men and couples to spend an evening at the shelter,
providing companionship to our guests and oversight of shelteroperations. Training is provided.
If you are interested, please
contact us at interfaithdover@verizon.net and provide your contact
information and, if possible, dates when you are interested in volunteering.
We also need afternoon volunteers from 1:00 to 5:00 on Monday,
Tuesday, and Friday to answer phones in our office.
Join others who have enjoyed working with those who represent the diversity of our community. Our volunteers describe their experience as humbling and uplifting. Volunteering to help the homeless with DIMH is a way to put your faith into action.

DOVER INTERFAITH MISSION FOR HOUSING
Dover's Shelter for Homeless Men
Our Progress
A special Thanks to Bowers Signs for providing us with this wonderful sign!!!!
The renovation has resulted in dormitory space for 32 men, plus our current office, bathing and laundry facilities, a kitchen, and a "gathering room" for eating and relaxing by shelter guests. A small upstairs apartment serves as home for our on-site manager. We continue to be full every night and turn away several men each week.
Since we opened December of 2007, we have sheltered more than 500 men. Many have moved into private housing and into full-time employment with the help of our staff and volunteers.
Funding
A small grant from the New Castle Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church enabled us to start last winter with part-time staff, while a subsequent grant will help with the purchase of kitchen equipment. Economic Stimulus funds reached us through the grant to hire the employment counselor, while a grant from the Delaware State Housing Authority will make it possible for us to link with others serving the homeless statewide and to support operations during the coming year. The Greater Dover Committee also contributed funds towards the kitchen and laundry. St. John Lutheran School raised over 5500.00 towards our kitchen as well.
We have been blessed with support from local faith communities and individuals that have made it possible to renovate our permanent building. This building will be leased from the Downtown Dover Partnership at low cost for ten years. Individuals and businesses have donated items for the shelter such as washing machines as well as doors, windows, and a huge commercial heat pump which shelter guests reclaimed from a local building facing demolition. We recieved donations of a commercial double door stainless steel refrigerator, and the money to purchase a walk in freezer, and a used commercial 10 burner stove. Our Kitchen is finally complete and we Thank the community's support and generosity for helping to complete the final phase of this shelter.
We are thankful to all of these wonderful donors and supporters! Daily, we are blessed with a hardworking and energetic group of board members who perform many of the administrative and planning tasks that other organizations have to pay for. This is truly an interfaith, community effort that depends on all of you.
