Volunteer Opportunities

We haved moved in to our WONDERFUL new facility and the men are enjoying their new home.  Just about everything we do and have comes by way of donation and volunteers, therefore, we are publishing a list of needs in the hope that we might be able to receive some of these items as donations as well.  If you are able to donate any of the following items or would like to make a contribution, please call the office at 736-3600 to make these arrangements.

Contributions/Donations:  Please mail donations to the PO Box 1148, Dover DE   19903 address.  Donations of food and toiletries can be dropped off at 684 Forest Street during business hours.  We do not accept donations of used clothing but encourage those with useful men's clothing to contribute them to the Wesley Clothes Closet at Wesley United Methodist Church.

We invite men and/or couples to spend an evening at the shelter, providing companionship to our guests and oversight of shelter operations.  Training is provided.  If you are interested, please contact us at interfaithdover@verizon.net and provide your contact information and, if possible, dates when you are interested in volunteering.

We also need afternoon volunteers from 1:00 to 5:00 on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to answer phones in our office.

POLYTECH Students help serve dinner

The numbers of volunteers have increased a hundred fold in the past few months due to the faith organizations coming out preparing and serving meals. In addition to the two interns we currently have from DSU, two more were recruited who are in training. We also have a volunteer Life Skill Coach that has come aboard DIMH to help the men deal with real life situations and drug & alcohol counseling.

We continue to receive donations from local businesses, churches, and individuals. Dunkin Donuts, The Food Bank, La Fontana, Home of the Brave, Some Guys Bagels, Hirsch Industries and Frankford Bakery. DIMH is becoming widely known in the community and we are being flooded with all types of donations. We are blessed to be able to obtain as many top/bottom lockers as needed for our new shelter compliments of Sarah Martin and the Dover Air Force Base. The Dover Air Force Base USO continues to be a strong support to provide lotioins, soaps, etc. Donations from the community have been tremendous and are still ranging from clothing, dressers, TV's, dinette sets, beds, lamps, etc.

The Dover Interfaith Mission for Housing is a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization and all contributions are tax deductable. 100% of your donation will be spent on the renovation and operation of the shelter, as we have volunteer administration and no overhead costs.
